COMMUNITY LIFE

In Glen Cannon, property owners enjoy the best of both worlds: the solitude of living in a forest environment, and the camaraderie of great neighbors.

In addition to hosting the annual meeting of the Property Owners Association, the social committee organizes two events for the community each year. Social gatherings have been held at several local eateries where the entire restaurant has been reserved for the sole purpose of bringing Glen Cannon residents together. More casual events have included such activities as potluck picnics and meeting at the outdoor patio bar of Oskar Blues Brewery where neighbors have enjoyed a Corn Hole tournament.

Once a year, the officers of the POA welcome the newest homeowners in the community by hosting a drop-in at one of their homes.

One of the most enjoyable ways to meet neighbors is by walking the trails of the Glen Cannon Greenway. The Greenway, is the pride of the community with pathways that meander through mature forests along streams that lead to a magnificent waterfall. It provides another opportunity for neighbors to come together.

Several times a year, volunteers in the neighborhood gather to clear the trails and streams of debris caused by weather-related events. These workdays serve as a valuable way for neighbors to get to know each other better as they work side-by-side. After a morning of invigorating work, volunteers are treated to a potluck meal at someone’s home or in the picnic area below the falls.

Volunteerism is another aspect of life in Glen Cannon  The other work of the community is carried out by committees of residents who contribute their time and talents.  Besides the Board of Directors, committees include Architectural and Environmental,  Private roads, Communications, Social Activities, and Trails and Greenways.
